Cartridge filters are used extensively
to clarify water on an ongoing basis. Water is recycled through the
pleated media, depositing the dirt cake on the fiber surfaces. With
each succeeding cycle, more dirt accumulates on the media surface.
The openings progressively become
smaller and the efficiency of the filter constantly improves.
Hence, the filtering medium is really the combination of the pleated
media plus the collected dirt cake. An ideal dirt cake is a porous
one consisting of layers of coarse particles adhering to the fiber
matrix followed by medium, fine and extra fine particles deposited
in sequence. This ideal cake formation relates to flow rate, water
clarity, cartridge life and cleanability.
Freudenberg's Viledon is a spunbonded
polyester media that facilitates water clarity, lasts longer and
cleans easily. It is fast becoming the media of choice for pool and
spa cartridge use.
